The Bluegrass Runners invite you to join us for the 34th Annual Thoroughbred Classic 5K & Kay Collins Memorial Mile on Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, November 23, 2017 at 9:00 a.m. at Lexington’s historic Keeneland Race Course. The race start/finish will be near Barn 2.  The race will be chip timed by 3 Way Racing.

PACKET PICK UP

Click HERE for all details on WHERE and WHEN to pick up your packet. PLEASE pick your packet up early, rather than on race day. It’s good for all of us!

What you are racing for

All proceeds from the race benefit eight local charities the Club chose this year. Last year, we made our largest donations in the race’s history! Help us try to reach the $40,000 mark this year. What better way to start off Thanksgiving than by giving back? Also, because we donate all proceeds to charity, and as noted on our FAQ page: no refunds, no exceptions.

The doughnuts. The Cider. The hot chocolate. Come for it all! We have a DJ to create an awesome atmosphere and will again offer professional photography of the race. Kids nine and under who complete the race all receive an awesome turkey medal and can brag all day about their accomplishment. We also have unique awards for our overall and age group winners.

Swag

We are a running club, so we think it is important that our runners receive first class swag for running this race.  Registrants will receive a commemorative long sleeve technical shirt by Greenlayer with concept art provided by BGR member Robert Bridges and design completed by BGR member Matt Reno of Matt Reno Logos. Shirts will be available in both men’s and women’s sizes.  Because this is a family event, we are also offering kids sized long sleeve soft poly shirts. Supplies and sizes are limited, so register early to make sure you snag a shirt in the size you want!
In addition, the first 1,000 registrants aged 10 and up will receive a race premium — a pair of BGR logoed PRO Compression brand technical running socks in a fun new design that is unique to our race!

Family friendly

While we do not encourage participation with strollers or dogs, we understand that Thanksgiving is a family holiday and that for some families, they cannot participate without bringing their stroller or dog.
  • Stollers: You must purchase a $5 untimed bib for each stroller. (Please note the child in the stoller will not receive a Turkey Medal. Only full price bibs for children 9 and under receive the turkey medal.)
  • Dogs: You must purchase a $5 untimed bib for each dog. NO RETRACTABLE LEASHES ARE PERMITTED.
  • If bibs are not purchased during registration, bibs will be available for purchase on race day.
  • All participants with strollers and dogs MUST start in the designated area BEHIND all the runners and walkers and must be personally responsible for any strollers or dogs and not disrupt any other participant on the course.
If you do not follow these, or any other rules, or do not purchase a bib,
you will be removed from the course.

The tradition of the memorial mile

We run the first mile of the 5K race in memory of Kay Collins. This mile allows everyone to celebrate her memory as well as the memory of other loved ones on this family holiday. THERE IS NO SEPARATE MILE RACE OR COURSE.

Come celebrate with BGR!
