The Bluegrass Runners invite you to join us for the 33rd Annual Thoroughbred Classic 5K & Kay Collins Memorial Mile on Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, November 24, 2016 at 9:00 a.m. at Lexington’s historic Keeneland Race Course. The race start/finish will be near Barn 2.  The race will be chip timed by 3 Way Racing.

All proceeds from the race benefit local charities. Last year’s race had the largest attendance in its over 30-year history, allowing the Bluegrass Runners to present over $35,000 in donations to seven local charities.  Also, because we donate all proceeds to charity, and as noted on our FAQ page, no refunds, no exceptions.

While we do not encourage participation with strollers or dogs, we understand that Thanksgiving is a family holiday and that for some families, they cannot participate without bringing their stroller or dog. If that is the case, and you need to participate with a stroller or dog, you must purchase a $5 untimed bib for each stroller and each dog. If bibs are not purchased during registration, bibs will be available for purchase on race day. Also, all participants with strollers and dogs MUST start in the designated area BEHIND all the runners and walkers and must be personally responsible for any strollers or dogs and not disrupt any other participant on the course. NO RETRACTABLE LEASHES ARE PERMITTED. If you do not follow these, or any other rules, or do not purchase a bib, you will be removed from the course.

Click on the Registration menu above to go to the registration site provided by RunSignUp.

Following on last year’s new tradition, instead of being run separately, the first mile of the 5K race will be run in memory of Kay Collins and be the “Kay Collins Memorial Mile” — allowing everyone to celebrate her memory as well as the memory of other loved ones on this family holiday. ***THERE IS NO SEPARATE MILE RACE OR COURSE***

To get your Thanksgiving Day started off right, DJ Stitz is appearing again to help create an awesome atmosphere for the start and finish line. We will again offer professional photography of the race, including an opportunity to take family photos with beautiful Keeneland as the background!

Overall, Age Group, Masters and Grand Masters Awards will be presented for the 5K.

We are a running club, so we think it is important that our runners receive first class swag for running this race.  While supplies last, registrants will receive a commemorative long sleeve technical shirt, available in both men’s and women’s sizes.  Because this is a family event, we are also offering kids sized long sleeve soft poly shirts! This year we will order more kids shirts – at least 200! But still register early to make sure you snag one for your kiddo!

This year’s race logo and shirt design art is based on last year’s concept art provided by local artist Robert Bridges and completed by our very own President Matt Reno of Matt Reno Logos:

In addition, the first 1,000 registrants will receive a race premium — a pair of BGR logoed PRO Compression brand technical running socks in a fun new design that is unique to our race!
